At the end of 2020, the mountain forest project and the Greenpeace environmental foundation purchased 200 hectares of heavily damaged forest in the Thuringian Forest - the Unterschönau Forest of the Future. It is to be managed according to guidelines for near-natural forest utilisation and serve as a model project for other forest owners. On 12 July 2024, the Thuringian State Secretary for the Environment, Dr Burkhard Vogel, was informed about the special example of interdisciplinary and inter-association cooperation.
