A new GeoRoute has been planned in Waltershausen, the second-largest town in County Gotha. Known as the "Gateway to the Thuringian Forest" the town is located at the crossing of two old salt trade routes. Explore the impressive caverns under the town, geological attractions in the defence moat of the historic, ducal Castle Tenneberg and natural rock exposures in the surrounding landscape. The new GeoRoute will provide visitors with an overview of the relationship between geology, landscape development, soil and surface waters. Be curious!
