Hiking in the heart of the Thuringian Forest
Thuringia has many beautiful hiking destinations and a large network of hiking trails. A very special hiking trail connects the two communities of Floh-Seligenthal and Tambach-Dietharz over 15 km. The start of this tour is at the Schützenplatz in Schützenstraße in Tambach-Dietharz.
Along the way is the Spittergrund nature reserve with its extensive meadows and rare plants and animals. Resting places such as the "Schnapsbuche" and "Nägelstädter Girn" invite you to linger. Thuringia's highest natural waterfall is one of the highlights on the route. At 21 metres, it is particularly impressive in spring when the snow melts. The Ebertswiese is known as a special natural refuge in Thuringia. The extraordinary biodiversity of this forest meadow makes it so special. Fever clover, various species of orchids, rare birds and reptiles have found a retreat here. The small but beautiful mountain lake is a popular destination at any time of year and was created from a former quarry. The way back leads along the most famous mountain trail in the Thuringian Forest, the Rennsteig. Here, too, there is plenty to discover along the way. Via the Alte Ausspanne, past elongated forest meadows, the return tour runs along the "Rennsteig Ladder" back to the village of Tambach-Dietharz.
The tour is published on www.tourenportal-thueringer-wald.de.
The Spittergrund-Bergsee Ebertswiese hiking trail will be voted Germany's most beautiful hiking trail this year. 14 competitors from all over Germany are vying for this title.
Votes can be cast until 30 June 2023 at www.wandermagazin.de, via QR code and analogue with voting cards which are available at both tourist information offices.
