If you walk through Frankenhain (municipality of Geratal) and its forests, you will find numerous new and former quarries, trade routes, round stones and small streams and waterfalls in many places. It is all interrelated: this region, together with the neighboring town of Crawinkel, represents a rare location not only in our Geopark but also in the world and it can be really called the "millstone region". From the 16th century, millstones were first made for local mills that were fed by streams. Then the great quality of the porphyry millstones was exported all over the world.
