On 20 March 2024, an ESD project successfully implemented in 2023 by the town of Ruhla, the "Freetime" youth club and the UNESCO Global Geopark Thuringia Inselsberg - Drei Gleichen, which dealt with the forest and the water balance around Ruhla, came to an end with a joint tree planting campaign.

Under the expert guidance of ThüringenForst employees, the children and young people planted various tree species such as walnut and maple, which can withstand long periods of drought and help to make the forest of the future more species-rich.

Ruhla's mayor, Dr Gerald Slotosch, was on site himself and supported the planting campaign. He praised the initiative and emphasised the importance of this and similar projects for the sustainability of the town of Ruhla. He encouraged all participants to continue to actively contribute to environmental protection and to get involved in the sustainable development of the town and the region.

Overall, the tree planting event was not only a symbolic conclusion to the joint project, but also a practical step towards a more sustainable future for Ruhla and the UNESCO Global Geopark Thuringia Inselsberg - Drei Gleichen.
