New offer for children in the Kittelsthal Dripstone Cave

‘Feldspar, quartz and mica - I'll never forget those three’(This saying only rhymes in German;-)

Some people will remember this saying from their school days. After all, it describes the components of one of our native rocks - granite. But it's not just the rock described in the mnemonic that can be found under our feet. After all, our region is ‘rich in rocks’, as you can read over one billion years of the earth's history in the rocks from the Hörselberge to Steinbach. There are also numerous exciting geotopes, such as the Kittelsthal Dripstone Cave.

Geology you can touch and experience. This is what the Freundeskreis der Tropfsteinhöhle Kittelsthal e.V. would like to offer interested children and young people from the age of 7 under the motto ‘The Young Speleologists’. Once a week, on Wednesdays at 4.00 pm, the young speleologists meet on the grounds of the dripstone cave. They learn interesting facts about the geology of our region, how to distuingish between different types of rock and about the history and geology of the dripstone cave from geologist and cave guide Jonathan Harjes.

This offer is made possible by the Freundeskreis der Tropfsteinhöhle Kittelsthal e.V. The association, founded in 2023, has set itself the goal of maintaining the dripstone cave and organising various events as well as education and youth work. ‘The Young Speleologists’ is the first programme, which will take place regularly from now on.

Interested parents can register their children with Jonathan Harjes on: (0160) 944 509 73 or at hoehlenverein_kittelsthal@web.de.
