ESD training for UNESCO Global Geoparks in Friedrichroda

Meeting room in the GeoInfocentre at the Marienglashöhle.

Excursion to the Bromacker early saurian site, guided by Geopark geologist Stephan Brauner.

Representatives of all eight German UNESCO Global Geoparks met in Friedrichroda on 14-15 March 2023 for a workshop to discuss Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) together with the project coordinator Mira Franzen (Alfred Toepfer Academy for Nature Conservation). Each UNESCO Global Geopark presented its newly developed concrete educational offer and the implementation possibilities were discussed collegially. The venue for the two-day workshop was the Geopark's training room in the attic of the functional building at the Marienglashöhle. A visit to the show cave with its gypsum crystal grotto and the on-site GeoInfoCentre were of course also part of the programme, as was a visit to the famous Bromacker early saurian site between Georgenthal and Tambach-Dietharz. The workshop took place within the framework of the currently running DBU funding project "ESD for 2030: Implementing Education for Sustainable Development in the Educational Offerings of the German UNESCO Global Geoparks".

The town of Friedrichroda, as the managing municipality of the Geopark, is pleased to have hosted this workshop and hopes that all participants enjoyed a pleasant and successful stay.
